Why is it that some of the most heartwarming and funny conversations happen long after my Maddie is supposed to be asleep and I'm lying beside her? "I'll just say one more thing Mom"....that's how it was last night. Since we've had Bella spayed, Maddie is concerned about the whole reproductive process. You see, her understanding was that the vet took Bella's babies away. I had to explain to her that Bella had no babies and now, she never will. A relief to me, but somehow sad and melancholy for Maddie. "Poor Bella." She says.
Somehow this conversation flowed into human reproduction last night. So, dadddies don't really do anything? She asked. "Oh sure," I said, skirting the issue, "They change diapers and help a lot." "No, I mean, they can't have babies?" No, I said. "Well, I guess I can have a baby first and then get married." "Uh, no, I said....you should get married, then you and your husband can decide when you want to have a baby" "Oh, I see" says Maddie. Silence......."Well, I just hope my husband doesn't smoke. I don't want him to say, "Don't forget the cigarettes " when I go shopping."

Thanks for my morning chuckle. You are an amazing writer!
The line about the cigarettes is great! It's humbling to realize that our children know so much more than we think they know. There's a whole chunk of stuff going on in their little minds that we don't even think about them possibly knowing.
