A Jewel in the Mouth...
As I was reading to the girls Friday night, Chelsea burst into tears. I asked her what happened but she continued to cry. Finally she was able to say, "I don't want to tell you". I replied that she needed to tell me if she was hurt. Almost immediately she told me.... " I swallowed my jewel from Disneyland!!!.....many more sobs and tears followed. First of all, I didn't even realize she had anything in her mouth and secondly, I remember that jewel being fairly large! She said she could still feel it in her throat. Great....do I take her to ER for an x-ray? No....too dramatic.....go to the walk in clinic? No, it's probably closed.....So, for lack of a better solution, I googled "child swallows small object". From my research, it seemed that she would be fine...it would likely pass through her digestive system in the next 24-48 hours. She could talk and seemed fine so it wasn't obstructing anything....I also read that you should take your child in if they swallow something sharp like an open safety pin....Yikes!! An open safety pin? Can you imagine swallowing that? Anyhow, Chelsea seems fine and no longer feels the jewel in her throat. I can't say it's gone through. She is well trained to flush so I may never know the fate of the jewel!

Michael did the same thing!! With a favorite bead or small marble; I can't remember which. He was much older though; I think he was 9! Anyway, he looked for it every trip to the bathroom... and found it too! Very disgusting! I hope Chelsea forgets about it; but be prepared for her to want you to pick it up and wash it for her! YUCK!
