Glimpses of Grade 2....

I think I'm a different teacher now. I used to be so uptight about "control" that I didn't have time to really enjoy the kids. I always liked them , but I didn't take time to savour the experience of spending the day with 6 and 7 year olds. Maybe now that I'm a mother of a six year old I just find them more appealing....I don't know but this year I'm really enjoying the funny things they say and do. Here are some recent examples from my class:

  • Holding up a 3 inch by 3 inch piece of cut glass, one student asks me in all sincerity, "Mrs. D, , is this a real diamond?"
  • While running our fitness circuit, one student, again, in all sincerity, informs me as he does the "fake limp" that he's broken his leg...
  • One of my cutest little guys (who was a seriously ill preemie) says to me, "OK, you might be embarassed when I ask you this, but can I get a drink from my juice box?" (I'll have to explain the meaning of embarassed to him!)
  • And the one from my reluctant worker who was staying in at recess to finish up...."Oh, I wish I was still in kindergarten!"

I'm sure they'll crack me up many more times this year. They are a fun group. They are young, so in some ways they are frustrating after having a grade 3 group last year, but it's very refreshing at the same time.
