"Tsunami USA"

Can you believe your eyes when you watch the news....is this really happening in the most powerful country in the world? The power of nature knows no economic or social boundaries. I was struck watching the news tonight....some of the footage showed beautiful Victorian homes submerged almost to the attic in water. A few blocks away the same water covered apartment blocks in the "projects". No amount of money or power can help you when a hurricane strikes. All your wordly possessions amount to nothing when your very life is at stake. Why is God reminding us so often of our frailty lately? Last night Mike and I wondered why we invest so much in our home, our "stuff", our vehicles when it could all be taken in an instant. Those beautiful homes in New Orleans...so carefully decorated and looked after are now just rubbish.

We are shaken by this. But God is not shaken - that it our hope. I imagine myself in the midst of such a tragedy. How would I cope? Would my faith carry me through?

Some of the footage tonight showed people in a panic....their eyes showed such desperation.....others had a quiet peacefulness about the situation. One woman with a baby standing in knee deep water kept repeating...."by the grace of God, by the grace of God" That was comforting to her. How amazing. Another woman left her 5 year old in the apt. so she could swim and go get help. She was pregnant and went into labour. She was airlifted to a hospital, but know she doesn't know where her 5 year old is. I can't imagine.
