Grand and Noble indeed....
We put our Christmas tree up last night. I had an urge to get a real tree this year. Most years we pull out our lovely tree from the crawl space but this year, I don't know, I just wanted the smell and nostalgia of a real fir! So, last night Mike and Maddie headed over to our neighbourhood Home Depot to pick one out. When they arrived home, I couldn't believe the size of the tree they had picked. Mike decided that for a few more dollars we needed to have the Grand Noble fir! When we propped it up in the front room, we realized right away it was too big . Good thing we have an open ceiling in the family room. We dragged the monster into the family room and oohed and aahed as Mike cut the strings around it. We decorated with the help of our step ladder. It looks great except for our puny little angel topper. I need to go out and get a more appropriate topper for this grand and noble tree! Which reminds me, when I was a kid my dad would cut out a perfect five pointed star and wrap it carefully in tin foil for the top of our tree. Looking back at photos, our tree was usually quite quirky...probably because my dad and brother would go into the woods and pick one out. It wasn't cultured and grown on a tree farm. Those childhood trees were the real thing. Anyway, I'm going to enjoy our tree this year. I can't wait for a quiet evening to sit in the glow of its lights and read a good book!
