On the Back Burner

Blogging has been on the back burner in my life these days as you can tell. This working mother thing leaves very little time for me to be on the computer or watch TV. I've even considered cancelling our cable for the few times we turn it on during the week! I won't though....when I need to do nothing, it's a good distraction!

It's 6:30 am on Sunday morning and the rain is falling in that familiar pattern outside the window. It sure feels like November.

Life is good despite the busyness. Here are some of the highlights of the past few weeks.
  • The Woman of Faith conference....my annual outing with my friend Heather. We had a good time staying over in Vancouver and hanging out together. We both agreed the conference was better than previous years, especially the music. I was introduced to Nichole Nordeman and loved her. She was so real. I could just tell she was a really deep person whose faith was everything to her. I bought her CD and just love it. I was looking for some new music and she fit the bill for me.
  • Dr. Laura.....once again my friend Heather, through her connection with the program "Marriaage Uncensored" got us into the show with Dr. Laura as a guest. It was really fun to see her in person. What a spunky lady. I really enjoyed her comments on her new book, "The Proper Care and Feeding of a Husband". It was fun again to see how the show is taped and be part of the guest audience. Anyone that lives here can be in the audience. Just look at their website.
  • Caleigha...Only six more days until Colin and Jeanie go to China to pick up their special stork delivery. We had some fun recently with them at Anjeleigh's birthday and yesterday at a shower for Jeanie. They come back on the 30th. I can't wait to see our new little family member. Yesterday at Jeanie's shower, I was struck again at her passion for adoption. She's affected so many people's lives in this area. I was so confused as to why God had them travel this painful journey, but I'm beginning to see the threads of the tapestry God is weaving through their lives. Beautiful.
  • Date Night.....Mike and I went on a date night...long overdue. We had a great time together strolling Robson, going to a great Greek restaurant, strolling Robson some more. Mike secretly bought me the Diana Krall Christmas CD at HMV and presented it to me on the way home. It was such a nice evening to be together and forget all the responsibilities for a few hours.
  • Family Life.....I'm really enjoying my girls these days more than ever. I think it's because we're all at school/work all day. We've had good times together and I feel so blessed to be their mother. Last week I went to see both their teachers for a conference. Maddie's report was excellent. She's exceeding expectations in basically everything. The teacher loves her and had such positive things to say about her. Even more than the academics, I'm proud to hear she's caring and helpful. The teacher said she's always talking and writing about her family. It must be very important to her, she said. I'm glad that is a value for her. Chelsea's conference was student led. She did a great job at explaining everything to me. She, too, is working beyond grade level. She loves school and loves to be social. I loved looking at her art work and writing.

Well, it's early and Maddie and I are up. Maddie woke up with an "idea" for a book, so she'd madly writing at her desk so she won't forget it. Funny girl.

I'm going to make myself a cup of tea and enjoy the quietness for a few more minutes until the day begins in earnest.
