Manning Park

We had a little family getaway this weekend to Manning Park. Unfortunately, I was battling my fourth cold in as many months. It started during the week, so by Friday, I was pretty miserable. I did get better though, with a little help from Tylenol Cold andCold FX. Mike took the girls ice skating when we got there so I could just lie in the hotel bed and watch Dr. Phil and Oprah. By Saturday morning, I was ready to cross country. The girls did amazingly well this year and Chelsea was able to keep up and kept going for about 2 hours. Maddie, Chelsea and I went back to the lodge for the afternoon to watch a movie while Mike tackled some of the more challenging trails. We had a swim in the pool, sat in the hot tub and enjoyed the steam room too!
Sunday morning we tried snowshoeing. We had gone last year with Maddie, but it was a first for Chelsea. She was not impressed! Mike and I tried hard not to laugh while she whined and complained with pretty much every step! Mike ended up piggybacking her a few times. Otherwise, we might still be there! It was pretty slow going. She perked up when she realized we were almost back to the lodge and now admits that snowshoeing is "kind of fun". It was neat to get away to a bit of a winter wonderland. We even watched a hockey game (something we hardly ever do) while we ate supper in the pub... very Canadian and winter like, I think. The kids were allowed in the pub until 8 pm because the dining room was all reserved. Now it's Sunday night and back to routine. It was sure nice to have a mini holiday this time of year.

The snow shoeing story is funny though! :)
