Halloween 2008
Ha! Fooled you! I'm blogging twice this month. Actually, facebook is not letting me load pictures, so I though I'd put some up here. We had a good weekend. We celebrated C's birthday with her friends on Friday. Her actual birthday was in September but when your mom is a teacher, that's just not a good month! Another reason we delayed was that she wanted to take a few friends to see High School Musical 3 and that is what we did! She has 3 close friends at school....all great kids. It was really a delight to have them for dinner and take them out. They were all polite and easy to manage.

This afternoon, Mike arranged to take me out while his parents watched the girls. We had a nice time window shopping and browsing down on Granville and then eating at one of our favourite Mexican restaurants. We had a great time together laughing and chatting. It had been too long since we'd been out, just the two of us.
Tomorrow I work, but then I've got two days off! It will be a nice change. Too bad report cards are due soon. I have to get going on them, so I'll likely be spending a good part of my day off at the computer.
Now for some random thougts....
-I miss Hawaii. I guess once you go, you're hooked. Every time I see that John and Kate commercial with him snorkeling, I get jealous!!! I totally love Oahu and I'm sure I'd love Maui and the other islands, given the chance!
-I got the flu shot this year for the first time. I get reimbursed so I went for it. I hope it works for me. Maybe I'll never know.
-I'm really tired of election signs. They are just plain messy looking. I'm not a political person, I guess. I can't wait until the municipal elections are over. I don't want to hear about any more elections for a very long time.
-Speaking of elections, I'm tired of the government coming up with great "ideas" to make my job even more demanding. Ideas like daily physical education and the fruit and vegetable program....don't even get me started. Why is is now my job to make sure my students are fit and eat their veggies...yeah, like I've got time in the school day for that. And by the way, they say...we've cut out a bunch of stuff from the math curriculum, but you have to teach "math" for an hour a day now. Have any of these people ever been in a classroom?
Well, I didn't intend for this to turn into a "rant" so I'm going to turn in now. I've got to get to work tomorrow so I can teach math, fitness and feed my students cherry tomatoes. Reading? No, we might not have time! :)

I agree. I'm not a professional teacher but having three, soon to be four, children in the public system I sympathize with you. It's too bad that the government has to step in because some parents have abdicated their responsibility for a better life style. Which, I wonder will have a more lasting effect on society? Greater individual spending power or more heath care costs due to an unhealthy society?
Heather, I never knew such satire lived inside you! Didn't you know, teachers are supposed to change the world. Parents are just supposed to pop the people out there and make money. As a PE teacher, I'm not even excited about the daily physical education initiative; no one has a plan on how to implement it so it might as well just be big ideas written into law. It's the biggest mess going in education.
