It's Friday of the first week back. I made it through a week of routine pretty much unscathed. As per my new year's resolution about eating better as a family, things are going well. I got a new crockpot...the kind that turns off when it's done and just keeps the food warm. It's some kind of wonderful. I have used it so much that my kids say, "Oh no, not the crockpot again!" It's just too convenient for a working mom, I guess. I'll have to change it up every so often or they'll revolt. A personal chef would still be my first choice, but the crockpot is a close second.
My kids at school continue to amaze and challenge me. I have such a quirky group this year. Today we had a karate instructor come in to do a demo. I should have warned him! Between trying to engage my boy who's a selective mute, trying to understand my nigerian student and wondering why my boys with autism are more fascinated with their shoelaces than with his lesson, I think he was glad to see us leave. No, actually I think my one boy stole his heart at the end when he told him karate was his favourite part of the day. Even Mrs. D did some chops and kicks...are you impressed? My students were. The only part I didn't sign up for was holding the pads so my students could "kick" them. Mr. Karate doesn't realize how uncoordinated some grade twos are. I only have a few bruises.
Tonight is "family fun night". We are waiting for dad to bring home the Japanese food so we can dine and watch movies. It's simple, but the kids get all excited for it. Maddie says, "I've been waiting for this night all week!" Me too. I'm in my pjs and ready to lounge, veg, and rest my weary brain.

Yes, I don't like holding the pad for Layni to practice her Tae Kwon Do kicks either. She's usually pretty coordinated, but she puts a lot of power into those kicks, so even when she's on target, it's quite the punch! I would have loved to see you doing those kicks though!(I have no doubt I would have fallen over or otherwise been the comic relief, haha!)
