Learning the Languages....

I remember reading the book Love Languages by Smalley and Trent years ago. It meant something to me, but wasn't world changing. When I had my girls, someone told me about the kids' version. I read it and was intrigued, but once again, I didn't connect with it totally. I think my kids were very young and I was more concerned with sleeping and eating issues at that point...you know, getting me through the day kind of issues!

As our kids are growing up and developing unique personalities, it is interesting to see how they give and receive love.

Chelsea loves to give and receive gifts. Chelsea will be the first to thank us if we buy her something. Not only does she thank us, but she will write us a note and leave it tastefully on our pillow or on a breakfast plate. She loves to create cards, make gifts and gets such delight from finding the perfect card, gift or wrapping. Chelsea will often point out something that would be a perfect gift for someone we know.

Maddie is our cuddler. Even though she is a tall and lanky 10 year old, she likes nothing better than to sit on my lap after supper or crawl into bed with me in the early morning. She will take my hand as we walk to school or scoot over in a restaurant booth or couch to sit right beside Mike or I. I think her favourite thing is to have one of us cuddle in bed with her and discuss everything from theology to what she should wear the next day.

Both girls are, of course, a mix of various love languages, but in the last little while, I've begun to figure out which ones they speak most fluently.
