I thought I had it all sorted out....how to celebrate Halloween as a Christian. I'm still not sure. I'm sure about a few things.
1. Our kids can dress up and trick or treat
2. They can't dress as anything occultish (witches etc...)
3. They can trick or treat at homes we know
4. We will talk to them about why they can't be witches, devils etc...
I'm not sure how to deal with how the public schools celebrate Halloween. Today was Boo Day so my oldest participated as a lovely Sleeping Beauty. Most of it was OK....just fun and harmless. One station was Witches Brew Relay....putting eyeballs, bats etc. into a pail. That was OK, but the teacher encouraged them to chant, "Bubble Bubble Toil and Trouble." That bothered me. Her kindergarten teacher was a witch....bad taste in my opinion....for a kindergtarten teacher.
I grew up participating in Halloween activities . . . I was even a witch one year, albeit a witch with lots of white cats and stars all over my costume...my mom thought it would be dangerous to trick or treat in a black costume. I don't think I suffer any long term effects.....
I saw a book in our church library, "Redeeming Halloween", maybe I should read it.
