Pride goeth before....a virus?

Why did I have to say anything? I was feeling so good about the fact our kids haven't been really sick this winter. Maddie had a little cold in the fall, but other than that, they've been healthy. I was starting to think it was my superior nutritious meals (ha,ha) or my insistence on daily vitamins. Maybe my kids had super immune systems.....no, just as I was feeling we had won the virus battle this winter, BAM, it hit with a vengeance. The victim this time is Maddie. I guess the bug going around her class has strengthened or something because, boy, is she sick!!! The poor little thing has huge red rings around her watering eyes. Her face is all blotchy and she's coughing and sneezing up a storm. If there was a picture in the dictionary for miserable, she would be it right now!! She just slept for a couple hours, woke up, ate some supper and voluntarily went right back to bed. When I suggested she brush her teeth after taking some more dimetapp, she said, "Mom, do I have to? I'm so sick." Well, I guess one night won't ruin her cavity free mouth. Anytime my kids have been sick, thankfully with nothing more serious than the common colds and flu, I've always wished I could take their place. When I see their little bodies infected, I would take it on in a moment to give them relief. It's nothing noble, it's just something that happened to me when I became a mother. God gave me an incredible capacity to love these little beings, even when they are runny nosed and highly infectious. I have a feeling I may be sharing in her misery soon enough!
