Duty Calls...

In the mail this week, Mike received a letter summoning him to jury duty. By random selection, he had been chosen, along with several hundred others, to be on the Pickton jury. We couldn't believe it. How come random selection doesn't ever work in our favour....like, let's say for the PNE prize home? Anyway, he quickly wrote a letter and mailed it off, expressing that sitting on the jury for the estimated trial time of 12 months would cause us excessive financial hardship. Hopefully, they'll be happy to weed the hundreds down and accept his letter. If not, he'll have to go to the courthouse on Dec. 9th and try to get out of it then. I can't imagine having to be on the jury for that trial.

That was the excitement for our week. Unfortunately, I've been hit with a very bad virus. It's the worst cold I've had in a long time. Yesterday I spent pretty much the whole day in bed. This afternoon I'm finally getting out of bed and trying to get mobile. Mike was advising me to stay home Thursday when I first started to feel sick, but I didn't really have stuff ready for a sub, so I pressed on....probably a mistake. Anyhow, I hope I don't spend the whole weekend down for the count.

My illness brought out the sweetness of my little girls. It's neat as a parent, to see them start to become less self-centred as they get older. They were so concerned about me and kept asking, "Are you OK Mom?" " Do you want us to do something for you?" As I was lying in bed yesterday, I heard them scrambling around downstairs. A few minutes later they came up and presented me with a get well card and some cut dahlias from the garden in a vase they had decorated with tissue paper and ribbon. It did my heart good.

When I look at their homemade gift on my night stand, I'm thankful for health...thankful that this cold is temporary and thankful for my family
