Well, we're back in the game. I survived two full days of entertaining, informing and answering questions from our new grade 2 students. Tomorrow my teaching partner is there to receive our new class. I'll meet them Monday. That's when the fun will begin and we can really get started.
My teaching partner, Debi, is so great. This morning she came in with two hilarious little stuffed animals from Starbucks for our desk. One is an owl with glasses and a book, the other is a funny blue bird with glasses. I cracked up everytime I looked at them today. We also received our Scholastic order....we bought a bunch of cool classroom stuff with our bonus coupons so we are anxious to use them. I think we got some great new books. That always makes me happy.
It's great to be back with our staff. They are such fun people to work with. Some of my favourite people are back from mat leave this year, so that will be fun
Both girls had soccer practices tonight. I'm so glad Chelsea is on the same team. I really like the coach's philosophy about having fun and learning in a positive way. We have an amazing set of parents too. Everyone is really friendly and easy to talk to. Mike is helping with the coaching this year a bit so I think he'll really enjoy that.
Chelsea FINALLY passed her level 1 swimming. I'm going to frame that badge. For some reason, even though she loved the water as a baby, she hated getting her face wet during her preschool years. No matter how many lessons I enrolled her in, she couldn't get past that. In the spring, after private lessons, she finally submerged her head. The next obstacle was trusting herself to float. After another failed lesson early in the summer, I took her swimming numerous times and noticed that as she held her breath under water, she was naturally floating up to the top. I told her that her body would do that naturally and Voila....a light went on and suddenly she could float. Well, it wasn't long before she could swim and do back floats. I quickly enrolled her in another level 1 and she passed with flying colours. I am so happy those obstacles are behind her now. She is so proud of herself.
Tomorrow the girls' school is having a special picnic lunch and then a concert by a multicultural group. The girls were chosen, along with a few others, by the music teacher to sit on the stage with the group to be filmed for their promo video. They are very excited and very concerned about what to wear.
Our first family fun night is tomorrow. Chelsea is picking and I'm pretty sure we'll be swimming. Fortunately....I mean unfortunately, Hyde Creek is closed for maintenance. If I'm a really good mom, I'll drive them to another pool. We'll see....or maybe I'll make a movie night at home sound really appealing.
