My girls like Hannah Montana. Personally, I think the show is corny, but they think it is the funniest show on TV. I've watched it many times with them. I think I've seen the episode with Dolly Parton guest starring at least 3 times. I prefer it to some of the other TV out there. I'd love them to be watching something more educational, but I know I can't shelter them from all pop culture. We've trying to learn to balance it.
I know this is old news, but the whole Miley Cyrus photograph shoot is starting to really bug me. I'm really tired of hearing parents say how their daughters looked up to Miley and she's let them down. I'm not sure what people expect. I don't know why parents allow pop stars to be elevated to such an extent. I am pretty honest with my kids and tell them that Hannah Montana is a fake. She's like a cartoon character, I told them. The person that plays her is a real teenager with problems and imperfections like the rest of us. I'm sorry if I am constantly bursting their bubbles, but I'm pretty sure it's better than the alternative. So, it really came as no shock to me that Miley (or maybe her parents) made some poor judgement calls. I used it as a lesson for the girls....people will almost always let us down. God alone deserves our worship and adoration.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your soul....I don't think there's room to have the "best of both worlds".
