The Shack

I just finished Book 1 on my summer reading list. For some time, I've been meaning to read "The Shack" by William P. Young. I'd certainly heard a lot about it and I was afraid it wouldn't live up to the hype. It was a fascinating read and in some ways, I'm still processing the whole thing. I may need to reread parts. I think the book really challenged my notion of who God is. It's a book that caused me to step back and examine my beliefs...I like that. I love the way the book deals with the issues of judgement and forgiveness. I love the picture of the Trinity....very different from anything I'd imagined. Not since "Blue Like Jazz" has a book really caused me to examine deeply the things I hold to as truth.

There is a part of the book I love. The main character questions God on the idea of all paths leading to him...."God", in the book, says that No, most paths lead to nothingness, but I will go down any path to find my loved ones. I love that idea. I often think of people following paths to find God, but I don't often think of the opposite, of God walking those paths to find us.
