Summer Chillin'

The summer started off with a frenzy of activity. The first week was spent tying up loose ends at school and simultaneously getting ready for the camp I was co-directing and the girls were attending. On Saturday we headed up to beautiful Thetis Island. Pioneer Pacific is possibly the most beautiful little spot on earth. There are two secluded bays, perfect for kayaking and canoeing. There is a spectacular arbutus grove and just beautiful scenery anywhere you look. We had a great week at camp. The girls loved being campers. It was such a great experience for them. Their cabin leader was a lovely Chirstian girl from Mexico. She's a law student who came to Pioneer as a child and wanted to give back. Chelsea's friend (and our neighbour) came along with us, so it was nice for the girls to have a familiar face there. It was a good week, but a busy one and we all came away needing about 3 days of uninterrupted sleep!! It's always a stretch for me to live in community, but it's a good stretch. Camp is hard work, but I always feel as though I'm in God's "groove" when I'm there somehow. I think the magic of camp is the intergenerational aspect. We work so hard to create that environment in our churches with limited success. at camp, it happens naturally. To look around the room at lodge time and see all ages engaged and together is really special.

Anyway, this week is all about relaxing and doing some things around the house. The girls and I worked on dejunking their rooms this morning. Now I'm on to the garage and our bathroom. Mike washed the carpets while we were at camp, so they look really good. Our interior desperately needs to be painted, so I need to hire someone to do it. I don't think Mike has the time right now. He may possibly be off to England this summer for a week. Right now the Gore suppliers are in town so he is off to dine with them tonight.

Our next adventure is Hawaii in August. we are all pretty excited to go. I think the girls are the perfect age to really enjoy a holiday like this. I know I am! I just can't wait to feel that tropical air and enjoy the beaches.

Oh camp!
I agree it is a very special place, like it's own little world.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time.
We are looking forward to getting back there sometime too, don't know when but one day we will. :)
