Rites of Passage

On Saturday my girls grew up just a little more. We had decided years ago, when they first asked, that 10 would be the magic age for ear piercing. We also decided that we would get both of them done at once so they could go through the whole experience together. That means Chelsea lucked out and only had to wait until her older sister turned 10!

On Saturday we did the deed! The girls were expecting to get them pierced sometime soon. It just so happened that we were at the mall Saturday morning as a family, which is a rare event. It also worked out that our family friend who owns a day spa at the mall was working. I wanted her to do the piercing because the girls know her and well...I trust her! I knew it was the perfect opportunity so I sprung it on the girls. Chelsea was willing and ready. Maddie weighed out her options and then decided that yes, if Chelsea was ready, so was she.

Maddie went first. She didn't even flinch...what a trooper. Chelsea went next. She just kind of sighed as it was over. I think she was holding her breath! It was a neat moment...kind of a milestone and a sign they are growing up. They both look so pretty and stylish with their cute little earrings. They are being "religious" about looking after them which confirms to me why it was good to wait until now when they can be responsible about the whole thing.
