Outrage

I was outraged as I watched the news last night. I can't believe that the speed racer who killed that woman a few years ago is pleading with immigration not to be deported. Even more outrageous than that is the fact he has yet to serve any time. Oh, he's done a little community service....big deal. He hasn't even said he is sorry (I guess that would be admitting guilt or something). I just think it's terrible that he killed someone....and it wasn't an accident as far as I'm concerned. As for his family, I feel sorry for them, but it doesn't change the fact that he should have to pay for his actions.

The other outrage I'll post about is the addition to the casino. I can't believe the big money that place brings in. They are adding on a massive addition and it's going to be finished this fall. That's not outrageous in itself. It's no surprise to me that they have big bucks. I just think it's sad that people are gambling money away - in most cases, money they can't afford to lose. For many, it's a serious addiction. I guess they give a portion to the city, but really, it's sad that the casino has top of the line everything when our schools, hospitals and community centres are underfunded. What a crazy world we live in.

I wonder what Jesus' thoughts on the above might be? Maybe he would extend more grace than I have given to the speed racer.....? I don't know. I'm sure he would feel saddened by the waste of time and money the casino consumes. I guess I'm not in a position to judge really....I waste time and money almost daily. Funny, when I examine myself and my shortcomings, my outrage at the outside world is lessened and I realize that I have control only over my actions and reactions. I guess in truth, we ALL fall short of the glory of God, and we all need a saviour...that's the bottom line.

We all cry out for justice. It's in our nature to see the scale tipped in favor of the innocent and the oppressed. I think you hit it on the nose when you asked the question about Jesus' perspective. I beleive that Jesus did more to change the world one heart at a time, than he did changing society as a whole. I think AW Tozer once said that the best way to change a community is to change individual's hearts. If we pray for the hearts of others to be changed by the gospel, communities will be impacted.
