t-shirt rant

Something has been bothering me for a long time now and today it was magnified when we went down to the States to do a little spring shopping. I don't know if I'm getting old or what, but the slogans on t-shirts these days REALLY bug me. It used to be kind of a rite of passage for teens to wear slightly inappropriate slogans on their shirts. I remember I wanted to get one with a saying "I'm not conceited, I'm just better than you." Not even realizing what it meant, I begged my mother for it. I couldn't understand why her answer was an unswerving NO.

Today in the little girls section and even in the toddler section, slogans dominated the shirts. There were some really cute little Disney retro-ish Pooh bear shirts. I could not believe the slogans printed on them for two- three year olds.....Things like "I'm bored with you"......"Focus on Me".... "Big Flirt" and the famous "It's all about ME". There were some others that I can't remember but they were equally awful. Am I just old-fashioned? Is this supposed to be cute? Who comes up with these ideas and who buys them? As Maddie said after hearing me rant. "I don't think Mr. Walt Disney would be too happy about those shirts."
