Spelling Geek

I love spelling....OK, I've said it. My true geekness is revealed. I was so excited after my last trip to Starbucks to find a really cool word on my coffee sleeve. They're promoting a new film called Akeelah and the Bee. It's about a girl who enters the National Spelling Bee. I'd love to go see the film. I love the documentary Spellbound. I watched it all by myself one afternoon, knowing others would probably not share my fascination with unusual and weird words. I'm a pretty good speller, although not a perfect speller. This year I finally learned how to spell and pronounce mischievous. I'd been spelling it wrong for years apparently. Teachers in the hallway do frequent my room to check spelling though, so I obviously have some kind of geeky reputation. Just yesterday the teacher next door ran over with a scrap of paper in her hand. Chihuahua....she said....how do you spell that? It didn't look right to me, but a quick dictionary check confirmed that I did know how to spell that breed of Mexican dog.

Anyway, in my dreams I'd love to be in a National Spelling Bee. I could spend my time studying the dictionary. I love words and the origins of them. I think I'm too old though, so maybe I'll just live vicariously through Akeelah. Anyone want to go see a movie?

Sure, I'll go! I was excited about that Starbucks sleeve too. LOL I like spelling in sort of a Jeopardy type way - not perfect but it is fun to test myself in a trivia type way.

OK, so are you saying there is no 'c' in that word?? Mishievious just looks like it should have a 'c' to me. Hmm. You learn something new every day!

And you're not a geek. Or if you are, you're a nice one. :)

That's so funny...I made a mistake typing it!!! The word has a curse on me. No, I thought it was spelled mischevious....sort of like I pronounced it. But it's mischievous. Thanks for correcting me!! LOL.
