Walk the Line

Last night I rented the movie Walk the Line for Mike and I. I didn't know much about Johnny Cash and June Carter except that I remember watching them on TV when I was younger....the man in black and his peppy little wife! It was a really good movie. The acting was superb. Joaquin Phoenix (what a name, hey?) and Reece Witherspoon did all the singing themselves and were so convincing in their roles. It's really a sad story in so many ways with the drug addiction, the infidelity, and the the broken lives. What the story really spoke to was the power of friendship and love. I'm not sure why June Carter didn't give up on "Johnny". He was such a jerk. Their marriage ended up lasting 35 years until their deaths in 2003. He died 4 months after her. He was probably heartbroken if the movie accurately portrays how much he loved her. I'm still not keen on his music! Mike and I couldn't really figure out why his music was so popular. Maybe it was a new sound and I think the lyrics were really "raw" and not sugar coated like so many songs of the day. I'd recommend it. It's long at 135 minutes, so you have to be in the right movie watching mood!
