A Little Bit of Heaven...

Camp is a special place. Most of the people there I see once a year....sometimes missing a year, but it's amazing how we come together and work for a common goal. One of the women said to me with tears in her eyes that camp to her is a little bit of heaven. Everyone is focused on one goal....loving the children like Jesus would and planting the seeds of heaven in their hearts.

Thetis Island is a beautiful place. The scenery is breathtaking and heavenly, really! There is such a peaceful feel over the whole camp. There are really no pretenses and no hierarchies once we are there. It is truly an example of how the Body of Christ should work. I wondered this week why it doesn't happen as naturally and smoothly in the church. Maybe it's the living in community thing that brings people together. When you're sleeping, eating, showering and brushing teeth together 24/7, something special just happens.

What I love about camp is the way people support each other. I had a difficult cabin....really difficult. Not once did I have to ask for help. People were always there helping me out and knowing what I needed at any given moment. Once it was a cup of herbal tea, once is was taking one of my campers for an hour, once it was clearing my cabin's table while I was solving conflicts. Many times, it was just coming with us to activities to be an extra adult or sitting with us at lodge time to be of support. It was really an amazing experience.

The week went quite quickly. I'm tired beyond belief, having not slept well at all for a week. But my spirit is refreshed and I know that once again, God has met me on Thetis Island. This year he stretched me and taught me that it's okay, in fact, it's necessary, to ask for help and receive it graciously.

Wow, Heather, that is amazing! Sounds like you had a wonderful week, even if you did have a difficult cabin!

Welcome Home!
