Well, here we are in the beautiful Rockies. My goal oriented nature wanted us to push right through to Red Deer. Mike, in his wisdom, wondered why we wouldn't stop and enjoy the scenery with the girls. He's right of course and so we've stopped here in Canmore and are going to enjoy Banff today. We stayed in Canmore last night in a great little hotel. A friend told me the Canmore hotels are about half the price of the Banff ones so we stayed here and will drive the short distance into Banff. I'm looking forward to being a tourist today. It works out well because my sister has a work appointment today anyhow and won't be home until 3.
We went to the Enchanted Forest yesterday. It's certainly dated but holds a special charm. Our girls loved it again. I was glad they weren't disappointed because they had such great memories of it and such high expectations.
The weather is much cooler for driving. It even rained a little through Rogers' Pass. We saw a forest fire on the side of a mountain outside of Revelstoke. It was a bit alarming to see the flames and billows of smoke. Lots of people had pulled over to take a look.
I always forget how beautiful these mountains are. I'm sure it's one of the prettiest spots in the world. I love the dense forest and the snow capped peaks. Our van is traveling well...it's a little gutless on the big hills, but that's OK with us. It's super comfortable and smooth!
I'll likely post again once we get to Red Deer.
