Blogging takes a back seat, as do many other things in the busyness of teaching, mothering and keeping up with life! I thought of a great post last night as I lay in bed, but this morning I could not, for the life of me, remember what it was about. Regardless, I need to update this poor lonely piece of cyber space.
We had a great long weekend. We got caught up on so many things around the house. It felt good to have that extra day. We also went on a nice hike in Lighthouse Park. We had never taken the kids there. Mike and I spent many a sunny day basking on those rocks when we were dating. It's a beautiful spot.
We are getting our fix of the ocean this weekend as we head to Pender Island for a little getaway. We are going with Mike's brother, wife and two girls. It will be fun for us to visit and great for the cousins to play. I'm very happy to hear the sun is going to shine. Last year it snowed right when we got off the ferry.
The girls have been busy with the track meet preparation at school. They both tried out for multiple events and both made the team. Maddie is doing 100 metre, long jump, high jump and relays. Chelsea is doing 100 metre, long jump and relays. So next Wednesday, I will have 7 events to watch at the district meet! They are both extremely fast little runners. They both consistently came 1st or 2nd in their grade groups (including boys). This mom was just a little proud...especially since I could never run to save my life! I can't take any credit for their athletic ability. They must have inherited Mike's genes in that department.
Today when I went into Maddie's class to drop off her lunch, the substitute teacher who has been there all week stopped me and told me how wonderful Maddie is. She asked me what my secret parenting tip was! I was a little stunned, but told her that I don't have any. I was just really blessed somehow with easy kids to raise. That's the truth. Somehow, through no expertise or wisdom on our part, our kids are turning out alright. They're normal. They fight, they talk back and test the boundaries, but we somehow we get through it. And, let's face it. They're just way better behaved when they're at school! I'm just praying for the ease to last through the teenage years. And here's a little secret....I think my two little girls are wonderful too.
School is ramping up. There is so much to do in these last weeks. Life is going to get crazy pretty soon. Then a few days respite and I'm off to Thetis Island to co-direct Adventure Camp with my friend and mentor, Lis....like I don't get enough of groups of children throughout the year! I am not helping out at our Upward Camp which happens the next week at church. Mike is volunteering instead! The girls are excited about the cheerleading camp. Mike will be sticking with the basketball. Then it's a family wedding where the girls will be Junior Bridesmaids and off to Alaska for our cruise. That will take care of July.
I'm hoping for a more relaxed schedule in August. My dear friend Bonnie and her family are coming to visit, so that will be the highlight of the month. We're also planning a trip to Tofino for some surf and sand for Mike's 40th. Last time he went with his brother, they camped. If I'm going with him, we're staying in a hotel. He can surf. I'll read on the beach. That works for me.
So, that's it. Life is great. Our cups continue to overflow and we are thankful for God's blessings in this season.
